Double Injection Mold is also called Two Color Mold. That's two different materials or two color materials injected in one injection machine, injected by twice, but the product only comes out one shot from the mold. This mold technology is called double material injection, usually finished by one set mold, and it needs special two color injection molding machine to produce the products.

Double injection molds become popular in recent years, this mold technology can make product apperance more beautiful, easy to change colors and no need to paint, but the price is much higher and it needs higher technical requirements.

Main feature of double injection molds: 1.the two shapes of cavity are different, each shape forms one part, but the two shapes of core are exactly same. 2.The mold cavity and core must be identical after rotation by 180° at the center. During mold design we must check this, it has higher requirement on mold position processing. 3. Cavity plate and A plate total thickness must be bigger than 170mm, also need check other datas of the injection molding machine, such as the maximum thickness, minium thickness, KO hole distance etc. 4. The edge gate of three plate mold can design to demold automaticly. 5. The second injection cavity can have a gap but need to consider the strength of each sealing position, to avoid flash or deformation. 6. The first injection part can be designed for a little bigger size, then it can press tighter with the core when second injection. 7. Will second injection flow change the first injected part shape? We need find the solution if it happens. 8. Before A and B plate are closed, we need to consider if the slider or lifter of cavity will restore to damage the part? 9. The water line of both cavity and core need sufficient, balanced and same. 10. Usually we inject the hard part then inject the soft part due to the soft one is easy to deform.
