Requirements of Thin-wall Injection Molding to Mold Feb 15, 2019
Speed is one of the key factors for the success of thin-wall injection molding. Rapid filling and high pressure can inject molten thermoplastic material into the mold cavity at high speed, to prevent the gate from freezing. If a standard part fills in two seconds, the mold thickness will be reduced by 25%, and the filling time may be reduced by 50% (saving 1 second in time).

When thickness decreases, there will be less material to be cooled. This is one of the advantages of thin-wall injection molding. If setting a reasonable conveying device, the hot runner and gate not hinder the shortening of cycle time. A hot runner system and bushing helps to minimize the cycle time.

In addition, the mold materials should also be taken into account. P20 is widely used in traditional molding injection, but because of the higher pressure of thin-wall injection molding, the mold must be made strong and hard. H13 and other hard steels will have better additional safety factors to thin-wall molds.
The cost of a strong mold may be 30%-40% higher than that of a standard mold. While the increasing costs are usually offset by the improved production performance.
