Basic Design Principles for Gas Assisted Injection Mold(1) Dec 14, 2018
Today we are going to discuss basic design principles for gas assisted injection mold
1. When designing, first consider which wall thickness needs to be hollowed out, which surface shrinkage needs to be eliminated, and then consider how to connect these parts into the airway.
2. Large structural parts: full thinning, partial thickening for the airway.
3. The airway should be evenly distributed to the entire cavity according to the main flow direction, and the closed airway should be avoided.
4. The cross-sectional shape of the airway should be close to a circle to make the gas flow smooth; the cross-sectional size of the airway should be appropriate, if the air passage is too small, it will easy to cause gas penetration, and if too large, easy to cause weld lines or air pockets.
5. The airway should extend to the final filling area (typically on a non-appearing surface), but does not need to extend to the edge of the cavity.
6. The main airway should be as simple as possible. the length of the branch airway should be as equal as possible, and the end of the airway can be gradually reduced to prevent the gas from accelerating.
7. The airway can be straight without bending (the bend the less, the better), the larger corner radius should be used at the corner of the airway.
8. For multi-cavity molds, each cavity must be supplied by a separate nozzle.
9. If possible, there is a no second option for gas propulsion.
10. The gas should be confined to the airway and penetrate to the end of the airway.
